Derek Hough celebrated the start of Shark Week by sharing his own epic video of his encounter with a Great White Shark last year.
The 35-year-old World of Dance star took to Instagram on Monday morning, revealing in his caption he got, ‘up close and personal with the iconic Great White Shark.
The accompanying video began with Hough, clad in a grey baseball cap and a white tank top riding on boat heading to the Guadalupe Islands.
‘I’m on my way right now to the Guadalupe Islands where I’m going to be getting into these massive steel cages and swimming with Great White Sharks, getting up close and personal with these amazing prehistoric animals. Let the adventure continue,’ Hough began.
The video then showed several shots of Hough on the white yacht before they dropped anchor and got ready to head under water.
He added the Guadalupe Islands are the ‘Mecca for Great White Sharks’ and this experience is a ‘bucket list’ item for him.
Some of the other members of his team threw out some bait on a rope and they saw their first Great White sighting as Hough prepared to get into the cage.
Hough showed off footage from inside the cage, with several Great White Sharks swimming with schools of fish alongside them.
He then spoke with ‘the man himself’ named Andy, who comes to the Guadalupe Islands ‘a lot.’
Andy said there are ‘literally hundreds of sharks’ in this area’ with over 300 identified in the area, adding that ‘bringing dudes like this to see them for the first time is just rad.’
More shots from inside the cage show one of the sharks pressing its nose up against the cage before swimming off.
After emerging from the cage Andy said the shark got just six inches from their GoPro camera and he tried to ‘bite the cage’ with Hough adding, ‘That was sick.’
Hough added that he saw 12 to 14 Great White Sharks, calling them ‘magnificent’ and ‘massive beasts.’
‘To see them in their natural habitat, just incredible. Wow. Bucket list, check,’ Hough concluded’ as his video came to an end.
